OnGuard 2008 Brings HSPD-12 to Physical Access Control
With the release of OnGuard 2008 later this quarter, Lenel’s industry-leading physical access control platform, U.S. government end users have a wealth of options available to bring their physical access control systems into full HSPD-12 and FIPS 201 functionality. As the focus of compliance shifts from producing and issuing cards to the use of cards in access control environments, agencies will begin to look to access control platforms that will work easily with legacy systems and integrate seamlessly with other key requirements such as IP network technologies, digital video and identity management processes. OnGuard 2008 will debut bundled features that are tailored specifically to U.S. government customers seeking an access control platform that ensures compatibility with the latest government-specific security mandates revolving around HSPD-12.
PIV Card Import
Benefits of using the OnGuard PIV import utility include rapid population of cardholder information while verifying the cardholder identity. The OnGuard PIV import utility allows critical demographic and identity data on a government-approved PIV card to be imported into the OnGuard physical access control system. The OnGuard PIV import utility also offers the option of performing cardholder identity verification against the fingerprint stored on the PIV card. After the cardholder fingerprint has been verified, the data is added to the OnGuard database. Data is imported using the contact interface as mandated. The OnGuard PIV import utility fully supports the following:
- CHUID data
- FACS-n
- GUID
- DUNS (if encoded)
- Card expiration date
- Printed information
- Full name
- First name
- Last name
- Middle name
- Employee affiliation
- Organizational affiliation
- Agency card serial number
- Issuer identification
- Cardholder fingerprint templates (ANSI INCITS 378 templates)
- Primary template
- Secondary template
- Cardholder facial image (ANSI INCITS 385 template and standard image)
PIV Card Usage within the OnGuard Physical Access Control System:
The OnGuard physical access control system fully supports the use of a government-approved PIV or PIV-compatible (CAC, etc.) card. OnGuard can import PIV data and utilize that data within the scope of the software environment. The PIV capabilities of the system are supported in the following ways:
- Reads complete FASC-n from card when presented to compliant reader
- Extracts from the FASC-n a globally unique credential number comprised of:
- Agency code
- System code
- Credential code
- Compliant with GSA-approved 200-bit and 75-bit card readers
- Compares extracted information with data in the OnGuard database to verify identity (refer to PIV Card Import section above)
Data Security
- OnGuard has completed FIPS 140-2 testing and is undergoing final certification. It will be the first commercially available access control system to complete that process.
All of these features are backed up by the industry-leading OnGuard Total Security Knowledge Management Solution. OnGuard delivers advanced functionality in the most demanding of security environments.
